Art & Music
Art and music education foster creativity, and help students to develop problem-solving and critical-thinking skills, as well as teach self-discipline and the value of perseverance. Through the arts, our students cultivate the 21st-century skills that will prepare them for success in any career path they choose. Perhaps most importantly, studying the arts helps students to make connections between themselves, their innermost feelings, and the world around them.
The Art Department offers a full range of courses in every art medium to satisfy the needs and interests of every student. The following courses are offered on a rotating basis: Drawing, Sculpture, Mixed Media, Printmaking, Graphic Design, Graffiti and Street Art, Painting, Digital Photography. Facilities for specialized processes are available as well as for the conventional avenues of expression. Through the wide variety of courses, students have the opportunity to develop artistic skills, an understanding of art, sensitivity to design, and an appreciation for order and beauty.
Students pursuing an Advanced Regents Diploma using a five-unit sequence in art, must include STUDIO IN ART or FOUNDATIONS IN ART 1 AND 2.
